POSITION: #FPCS18426 Reading Specialist 1.0 FTE Continuing Contract
2022-23 School Year LOCATION: Cascade Elementary POSITION OPENS: April 19, 2022 POSITION CLOSES: April 28, 2022

Required Qualifications: 1. Valid Washington State teacher’s certificate appropriate to elementary level
2. Endorsement in Reading
3. Satisfactory evaluations
4. Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or have received approved exemption prior to beginning work Preferred Qualifications: 1. Successful elementary school teaching experience (lower elementary preferred) within the last three years documented by evaluations and references. 2. Experience and preparation leading a Multi-Tiered System of Support in reading. 3. Experience in supporting and leading classroom teachers and paraeducators in the area of reading instruction. 4. Experience providing professional development and/or training to teachers and paraeducators in the area of reading instruction. 5. Successful relationships with parents, students, instructional teams, and staff members. 6. Evidence of success in working as a member and facilitator of an instructional team to develop a cohesive and collaborative delivery of instruction. 7. Experience or training in: Journeys reading curriculum, research-based intervention strategies, including dyslexia intervention, cooperative learning best practices, willing to participate and facilitate student supports, Professional Learning Communities. 8. Successful experience working with students with special needs or at-risk in reading. 9. Demonstrated ability, knowledge, and dispositions to effectively differentiate instruction to meet the needs of individual learners. 10. Evidence of successful classroom management and student engagement for learning. 11. Punctual and consistent attendance. 12. Successful experience administering and coordinating a variety of assessments including, but not limited to DIBELS, RAN, MAP, and SBA. Job Description:
The successful candidate will be expected to: 1. Meet and instruct the students in the location at the times designated. 2. Participate and engage with Cascade Professional Learning Communities to help facilitate learning for all students. Provide support for teachers and lead the school’s work with CORE, the KSD Literacy Plan, and other reading/campus initiatives. 3. Collaborate with individual teachers and teams of teachers to support differentiated, data-based instruction and/or intervention for students in the area of reading. 4. Plan and facilitate professional development for teachers and paraeducators. 5. Collaborate with administrators, teachers, and support staff to oversee all reading achievement information and plan for and/or execute reading intervention as aligned with the campus and district developed MTSS plan. 6. Coordinate student assessments. 7. Management and facilitation of the KSD Literacy Plan and collect all assessment data related to reading. Develop data dashboards that help staff better understand reading pedagogy. Diagnose individual reading weaknesses and design/collaborate with staff to achieve specific learning activities to support reading improvement. 8. Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning within the limits of the resources provided. 9. Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of such preparation upon request from a supervisor.
10. Take all reasonable and necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
11. Teach students to set and maintain high standards of behavior to have a quality learning environment where all children can learn.
12. Attend and participate fully in faculty and team meetings.
13. Establish and maintain collegial professional relationships with others. 14. Maintain records as required by Federal and State law, district policy, and administrative regulations. 15. Implement the requirements of IDEA, Sec. 504 and ADA in the education of students with disabilities. 16. Other duties as assigned.

Mobility: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time, push or pull 18-26 lbs., sit, kneel and crouch, twist and bend, use hands to type, finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arm.

Sense: The employee is required to talk/hear conversations and other sounds. The employee must be able to communicate effectively in person and over the telephone. The employee is required to taste and smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, far vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Lifting: The employee must be able to lift or move up to 10 lbs. regularly and occasionally up to 26 lbs; must also be able to lift overhead. The employee may be required to physically move quickly in an emergency or while performing student supervision duties.

Physical Hazards: While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to work outdoors in a wide variety of temperatures; from -10 degrees F to 100 degrees F +. The employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in this work environment is moderate.
**COMPLETION OF SAFE SCHOOLS WEB BASED TRAINING IS REQUIRED AS CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT**

Application Procedure: In-District staff must complete an internal online application by 10:00 p.m. (PST) on or before the closing date. In-building/In-district staff will have eight school days, or eight working days during the summer to apply for a vacant position through the online application system. The employee may choose but will not be required to meet with the building administrator to understand the building practices, procedures and initiatives specific to the position to which they are applying. After eight days if an in-building employee is qualified for the position, the principal will offer the employee the position. In the case that more than one in-building employee is interested in a position, the position will be offered to the qualified and senior employee. If a position is not filled in-building after the eight day period, the position will be offered to the qualified, most senior in-district applicant, if any. Teachers with a summative evaluation score of 1 or 2 are not eligible to transfer unless agreed upon by the District and Association.

Out-of-District applicants must complete the online District application and attach a letter of interest, resume, valid Washington state teaching credential, and copies of transcripts with degree posted. All hires are subject to completion of a satisfactory criminal background check.
