The Counseling Center assists NC State students experiencing personal, academic or vocational problems. The goal of the Counseling Center is to provide students with professional counseling services and outreach to help them cope with issues that may impede successful academic performance. The Counseling Center also offers crisis intervention and psychological/psychiatric assessment as well as consultation with others who have concerns about the mental/emotional state of NC State students. Our services are primarily short-term in nature and we make referrals to other helping professionals and community agencies as appropriate. Essential Job Duties

The Assistant Director is required to perform administrative duties, provide direct service to students, consult with university faculty/staff, and participate in supervision and training. This person will assist in developing, revising, and maintaining policies and procedures to ensure adherence to best clinical practices, and legal and ethical codes. This person will be responsible for coordination of multidisciplinary teams/committees and will directly supervise a number of clinical staff (as assigned). Assistant directors will embrace the center’s values and serve as a role model to exemplify these values.
Assistant Directors will carry a reduced clinical load that may include walk-in/crisis assessment, after-hours on-call, individual, couples, and group psychotherapy, clinical consultation, outreach programming, and clinical supervision. There is an expectation that Assistant and Associate Directors assist in hiring, training, supervising and consulting with all clinical staff, including trainees, as needed.
This staff member serves on the Administrative Team, along with the Director, Associate Director, and other Assistant Directors. The Assistant Directors will assume supervision of Counseling Center operations in the absence of the Director and Associate Director. Members of the Administrative Team will be expected to submit reports and/or data to the Director as requested and will serve on committees within and outside of the Center as required. Members of the Administrative Team are expected to support the Center’s mission and commitment to diversity.
Duties and Responsibilities:
One full-time, 12 month position with responsibility to assist in all areas of Counseling Center functioning including:

Individual and group counseling of NC State students/clients (personal, academic, and vocational assessment and counseling); psychological assessment; developmental and crisis counseling; couples counseling; evaluation of students for withdrawal from the University
Development and participation in Outreach programming
Consultation with faculty staff, parents, and others
Providing evaluations and recommendations regarding students with academic and conduct problems
Some participation in after hours “on call” and possible evening office hours
Participation in continuing education focusing on ethical requirements for clinical practice and culturally informed and responsive services
Participation in committee work as well as treatment teams when appropriate
This position is expected to participate in the training and/or supervision of graduate students and early career clinicians.
General administrative responsibilities

Multicultural and Outreach Responsibilities:

Lead Multicultural Committee meeting to develop and monitor on-going outreach projects and campus community requests as well as support and develop internal programs for staff development.
Provide direct outreach service to campus community.
Field outreach requests and coordinate the outreach response with outreach coordinator in Prevention Services.
Oversee stigma reduction diversity initiatives
Facilitate drop in and embedded diversity programs/hours
Liaison with campus partners: Multicultural student affairs, African-American cultural center, Women’s Center, Greek Life, GLBT Center, Recreation, Student Health and other campus offices for programming that addresses wellness development from a diversity perspective.
Maintain partnership with housing that involves the development and implementation of RA and RD training schedules each summer and booster programs throughout the year.
Oversee designated special services for both prevention and intervention that are assigned based on function and areas of expertise; this may include designated clinical and administrative functions
Assess utilization of services by all types of diversity and develop strategies for intervention.
Collaborate with the CE committee on diversity education for staff
Develop and implement learning outcomes and assessment strategies to evaluate and improve programs.
Consult with Director as needed and complete annual report for Counseling Center.
Actively participate in Center’s training program through leading Multicultural Training Seminar and providing supervision
Supervise professional staff both clinically and administratively
In collaboration with DASA director of diversity, implement on-going training for staff to promote cultural humility
Assist in recruitment and retention of a diverse staff
Oversee regular discussion spaces focused on diversity, equity and inclusion for staff
Developing and maintaining DEI database for staff development
In collaboration with the admin team, develop annual DEI goals for treatment teams, committees and the center.

Minimum Education and Experience

Relevant professional degree and licensure in the appropriate clinical field of psychology, social work, or mental health with the ability to supervise provisionally licensed clinicians.

For psychologists this is a licensed psychologist with 3 years post licensure experience.
For social workers this is a LCSW with two years of independent licensure and for counselors this is a LCMHC-S

Other Required Qualifications

Strong clinical skills and interpersonal skills, significant skill in cultural humility, diversity, equity and inclusion practices and a well-integrated understanding of short-term therapy, crisis intervention, community consultation, and outreach programming are necessary.
Demonstrated interest in coordinating diversity and inclusion efforts at the NC State Counseling Center.
Ability to work effectively and collaboratively as part of a cohesive team-oriented environment.
Knowledge of legal and ethical issues in counseling.
Evidence of effective leadership

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in a university counseling center.
Experience utilizing a time-limited model of care.
Experience and knowledge of electronic medical records systems (Titanium) that employ electronic record keeping, scheduling and data collection is preferred.
Thorough knowledge of ethics and law in research/data applications for contemporary issues in psychology, especially as related to individual and cultural diversity in emerging adults.
Experience supervising clinical staff in an administrative capacity.
Demonstrated expertise in at least one of the following clinical areas: substance use, eating disorders, IPV, ADHD, Autism Spectrum.
Demonstrated experience in diversity initiatives through programmatic and administrative leadership

Required License(s) or Certification(s)

State of North Carolina Licensed Psychologist, Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Supervisor, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist or eligible to attain such licensure within one year of hire due to an out of state move.

Valid NC Driver’s License required
