Since 1953, Evans Hotels has been a hospitality leader in San Diego and Southern California. Its portfolio includes two properties on Mission Bay, Catamaran Resort Hotel and Spa and Bahia Resort Hotel, as well as the AAA Five Diamond property in the prominent seaside community of La Jolla, The Lodge at Torrey Pines.

The following position will be filled in accordance with the process set forth in California Labor Code Section 2810.8 and San Diego Municipal Code 311.0101 et. seq.

SUMMARY

The Corporate Director of Engineering oversees the Engineering Division for Evans Hotels, ensuring each of the company’s physical assets is maintained to the standards of our guests and owners and in compliance with relevant local, state and federal standards and codes. Guides, mentors and instructs Engineering leaders (Chiefs/Engineer) to achieve peak performance for each of their employees. The Corporate Director of Engineering plans and executes capital projects and coordinates construction contracting for projects. This position also plays a critical role in sustaining and improving conservation measures company-wide.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assists Directors of Engineering in the management and coordination of property maintenance agreements with the goal of securing optimal performance and price. Examples of such systems include but are not limited to: (1) fire monitoring/suppression; (2) elevators; (3) pool systems; (4) pest control; (5) waste collection; (6) hood cleaning; and (7) grease removal.
Works with Directors of Engineering and/or operating departments to develop and improve energy conservation measures.
Assists Directors of Engineering in identifying areas requiring regular maintenance contracts, then obtains bids for such contracts and negotiates their terms.
Assists Corporate Contract Compliance Administrator in executing and tracking maintenance contracts.
Reviews, evaluates and authorizes monthly, quarterly or otherwise recurring billing for energy billing and maintenance contracts.
Ensures regulatory compliance in matters related to project management and facilities maintenance company-wide.
Liaises with Risk Manager to assist with permit-related and insurance inspections, including the tracking and reporting of required actions.
Oversees construction or remodeling projects, as assigned, working closely with outside contractors.
Plans and executes capital projects, typically ranging from 1 to 3 years horizon.
Coordinates the execution of such projects with the Executive Vice President Chief Operating Officer, Property General Managers or their designees.
Liaises with Evans Hotels management team, in-house entities, and outside vendors and sub-contractors on key projects, ensuring maximum success while minimizing unnecessary disruption to the business.
Implements and maintains safety programs and protocols that meet state, federal and local standards and ensures the well-being of our guests and employees.
Ensures a thorough, modern, organized, and user-friendly administrative infrastructure in place and continuously captures and maintains files, correspondence, schedules, billing, safety records, inspections, bids, contracts, vendor contacts and other critical information.
Creates and maintains professional and positive relationships with vendors, sub-contractors, and internal personnel to foster continuous improvement.
Generates bid documents for projects as necessary, reviews bids and executes construction contracts.
Assists with developing and monitoring project critical path schedules and timelines with appropriate input from relevant departments.
Assists with identification and resolution of issues that arise that may cause delays in the completion of project schedules or their final cost.
Assists from time to time with required maintenance issues at other properties owned by the company (including Ware Court) and at Evans Hotels’ cell sites, as directed.
As the senior leader of the Engineering Division, the Corporate Director of Engineering must also be able to complete all essential functions associated with a Director of Engineering role.
Performs additional duties and responsibilities as directed by the leadership team.

Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) preferably in a related area engineering or management; or ten years plus of related experience in construction, facilities, engineering and/or or project management.
Must have project management experience
Project Management Professional (PMP) preferred.
Certified Hospitality Facilities Executive (AHLEI) preferred. Other relevant licenses required for various specialized functions are helpful (EPA, CPO).
Reasonably proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, and Excel). Have experience utilizing commonly used Engineering and Work Order computer systems.
Proficient knowledge of construction contracts and billing.
Ability to read and analyze contracts, bid sheets, and billing statements.
Ability to communicate professionally with other hotel departments, vendors, and outside agencies both verbally and in writing.
Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
