About the Academy:
The American Academy of Actuaries (Academy) is a D.C.-based 19,500+ member professional association whose mission is to serve the public and the U.S. actuarial profession. Academy members include consultants, corporate executives and staff, regulators, government officials, academics, and retired actuaries. Their areas of practice cover pensions, life insurance, casualty insurance, health insurance, financial reporting, risk management, and more.
The Academy assists public policymakers on all levels by providing leadership, objective expertise, and actuarial advice on risk and financial security issues. The Academy also sets qualification, practice, and professionalism standards for actuaries credentialed by one or more of the five U.S.-based actuarial organizations in the United States.
As a member of the Academy’s communications team, the priority for this position is to develop and implement the digital communications initiatives in support of the Academy’s mission.
The primary charge for this position is to collaborate with the communications team, and across the organization, to improve how we connect with our audiences through integration of digital activities such as email campaigns, mobile initiatives, website enhancements, webinars, and social media. S/he also delivers analysis of all digital communications efforts and advises on strategic issues based on that analysis.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Assist the Director of Communications and senior staff in the formulation of relevant digital strategies and tactics.
Develop and maintain an integrated work plan of new and existing digital channels to support the mission, strategic plan, business priorities, and timelines of Academy staff.
Identify opportunities to enhance functionality and interface of website, mobile, webinars, emails, and social media.
Collaborate to develop content for all digital channels, particularly email, mobile platforms, and social media.
Manage technical implementation of and technical aspects of content updates to of webpages, mini-sites, and mobile apps.
Manage third-party digital agencies to set and achieve goals, troubleshoot, and assure deadlines are met.
Audit content for the best user experience.
Maintain and implement the organization’s search engine optimization (SEO) strategy.
Work with outside contractors on the development of new features, functionality, and engagement tools.
Manage analytics platforms to provide regular reports on web and email communications and mine insights, while continually finding ways to improve on those metrics through testing and new initiatives.
Assist in implementing the digital tagging and analytics measurement strategy through Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics.
Assist in developing and providing technical support to multimedia projects (videos, presentations, infographics, webinars, virtual event platforms, podcasts, web meetings, etc.) that promote awareness and understanding of all aspects of our work to both member and external audiences.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrated knowledge of digital techniques and programs including email campaigns, mobile communications and/or apps, website optimization, and use of social media.
Knowledge of Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, and a variety of other digital metric tools.
Knowledge and understanding of website content management, especially Drupal, and general understanding of SEO strategies.
Prior experience with a variety of email marketing programs, content management systems, and webinar platforms.
Experience in website copy development and editing and working knowledge of HTML layout and code.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Exceptional written and oral communications skills.
Experience with podcast production and promotion a plus.
Experience managing vendor relationships and maximizing productivity of vendors and consultants.
Excellent computer skills including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office, webinar tools, social media, internet research, email marketing tools, member databases.
Organized, detail-oriented, creative with problem-solving skills and strong analytical skills, and comfortable working in a high energy, fast paced environment.
Ability to handle multiple projects at once.
Diplomacy, patience, and a collaborative and positive attitude.
Education and experience required:
A minimum of five years’ experience in digital communications channels is required.
Previous experience with a professional association is a plus.
Job Level: This is an exempt position.
