Position at a glance
Iowa CCI is looking for a person with digital communications experience who is passionate about grassroots organizing and extremely talented at creating and sharing digital content with our base to advance our messages, frames, and priorities.
Iowa CCI’s office is located in Des Moines, IA. There is the potential to do some remote work but most of the work, especially in the first year, would be in the Iowa CCI office and other locations in the metro area.
This is a full-time position with benefits. The ideal starting date is mid- to late- June 2022.
This position reports to the Development & Communications Director.
About the Digital Organizer position
The digital organizer supports our communication and organizing teams to advance existing organizing campaigns, uplift the vision, values, and priorities of the organization, and expand the number of people we reach.
This position coordinates the content creation and amplification of Iowa CCI’s multi-issue organizing work through digital tools, email, and social media platforms in a rapid response environment.

Summary of Key Duties and Responsibilities
IOWA CCI is looking for someone with proven digital communications experience.Ideally, this person also has strong design skills. A strong applicant is excited and committed to learning and growing in the areas they might not currently possess.
This position leverages both highly relational and technical skills to excel at their duties. This position will also leverage social media and other digital tools to help create a clear and compelling arc of our work online and through email.
This position requires the ability to hold multiple deadlines – and sometimes competing priorities – at the same time. CCI is a fast-paced working environment.We expect the unexpected and often need to move quickly to respond to external events with our messages and analysis. An essential characteristic of the person holding this position is the ability to be equally comfortable working independently and as part of a team.
Key duties and responsibilities (not listed in any particular priority):
Content Creation – Use written word and the creation of static images/graphics/memes and videos that translate Iowa CCI’s organizing work and our member’s stories in ways that capture attention, drive action, and advance our messages, frames, and priorities across our communication channels.
Social Media Management – Assist in the planning, daily management, and implementation of the organizational social media calendar for multiple organizing campaigns across Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and Tiktok. Produce monthly analytics to monitor growth and assess strategies.
Email and Digital Action Tools – Assist in the planning, management, and implementation of the organizational email calendar, including the writing of and creation of action alerts, for multiple organizing campaigns. Coordinate content for and send our weekly e-newsletter. Use analytics-based experimentation to test avenues for effective email delivery, list growth, and engagement. Produce monthly analytics that monitor use and assess strategies.
Website management ��� Manage two organizational websites to monitor functionality and ensure they are up-to-date and accurate. Produce monthly analytics that monitor use and assess strategies.
Secondary Responsibilities: Assist with strengthening the digital capacity of staff and members. o Assist with other organizational activities as needed (local issues, statewide organizing and organizational events, fundraising, grant reporting).
You could be great for this role if:
You’re an excellent all-around communicator and have the ability to quickly draft sharp, persuasive, and well-messaged copy for a variety of platforms and audiences.
You have solid design chops. You don’t need to be a graphic designer, but you should have an eye for design and some ability to use basic video editing, design apps like Canva, and/or meme & GIF generators.
You have the ability to be nimble, open to change, and adaptable when new challenges, priorities, or roadblocks present themselves.
You have a strong understanding of different social media platforms and how best to post content and engage with communities on each.
You have a willingness to learn new digital tools that could strengthen our communications strategy.
You don’t shy away from solving the technical problems, latest updates/rules, and changes tech (Facebook) inevitably gives us.
You’re an excellent all-around communicator who keeps team members in the loop to ensure you get the feedback and the buy-in you need.
You have a familiarity with online action platforms widely used in the progressive organizing world (e.g. blast emails tools and online activism
CRMs (Action Network, etc.).
Experience in digital organizing, digital marketing, communications, advocacy, journalism, organizing, or other relevant experience
Proven writing ability in a relevant/related setting and for different platforms (you know how to maximize those 140 characters!)
Ability to write quickly, persuasively, and on deadline
Creative, self-motivated, organized, and deadline driven
Ability to organize and manage multiple projects while working in a team setting
Strong understanding of online campaigns and methods of grassroots organizing a plus
Commitment to Iowa CCI’s mission as a path towards progressive change

Starting salary is $37,150

The ideal candidate would live in or near the Des Moines, IA area or be willing to relocate.
Work on occasional nights and weekends and occasional travel throughout
Iowa may be necessary based on the programming of our work.
