Job Description Overview: SoCal Digital Prepress Lead

I. Position Mission

The primary responsibility of the Digital Prepress Lead is to ensure that prepress is meeting production standards.

Working Environment and Physical Demands
Typical office environment. Requires prolonged sitting, some bending, stooping and stretching. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator and other office equipment. Requires a normal range of hearing and vision to record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports and answer the phone. Requires eyesight correctable to 20/20 to read numbers, reports and computer terminals.

FLSA Status
This is a full-time position requiring consistent dependable attendance. This position is not exempt from overtime

III. Tasks description – Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

DIGITAL PROCESSING/PREPARATION OF OOH, SVS, QC and CDP files: 35% of position responsibility

Use Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign to open production files.
Confirm sizes and other parameters are correct, based on order specification.
Make any necessary adjustments to prepare art file for printing.
Uses statuses within CG Order Management System to communicate holds, customer notes etc.
Process large volumes of print ready files in a timely and efficient manner.
Save all working files in an organized, clearly named file structure.
Manage email inbox to monitor for critical or rush jobs that need to be processed and act/respond in a timely fashion.
Ability to be flexible with tasks as well as prioritizing the business needs.

MANAGE PRODUCTION AND PERSONNEL: 25% of position responsibility

Oversee Digital Prepress Technicians and delegate tasks or assign orders as needed.
Ensure that prepress production is meeting standards and operating efficiently.
Train personnel on new products and processes.
Investigate team errors and determine process improvements to prevent future errors.
Manage the balance between OOH, SVS, QC, and CDP Prepress work.

OVERSEE AUTOMATION ERRORS: 20% of position responsibility

Review automated errors and ensure that orders are processed correctly.
Help maintain automation machines and address problems.

HANDLE PRINT FLOOR AND AM REQUESTS: 10% of position responsibility

Review emails from both the print floor and AM teams and respond quickly and efficiently any request.
Help inform AMs on new prepress processes.
Collaborate with teams for process improvements.

CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT: 10% of position responsibility

Identify and communicate potential process improvements – assist Manager(s) and Lead(s) on all improvement initiatives.
Identify cost savings opportunities (labor and yield) – assist Manager(s) and Lead(s) on all cost savings initiatives.
Commitment to good communication between employees across all shifts to ensure process changes and improvements are implemented consistently and effectively.

IV. LEADERSHIP:

Conceptualize and implement process improvement
Train others in Prepress to utilize time saving tools
Assist with print floor and account manager requests
Knowing how to investigate problems when they arise and see them to solution

V. Additional Task and Responsibilities

Other duties and special projects as assigned
Work directly with the Digital Prepress & Creative Services Manager on special projects as needed

VI. Skills, Intellectual Demands and Job Requirements:

EDUCATION AND FORMAL TRAINING:

Associate or Bachelor’s degree related to graphic design preferred
2 years of experience in graphic design or equivalent field
6-8 years of experience as a Circle Graphics Prepress Technician

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY:

Must have working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign
Knowledge of layout principles and esthetic design concepts
Working knowledge of order-management systems
Experience working in Microsoft Office: Outlook, Word and Excel
Ability to organize and follow procedures
Must be able to multi-task and exhibit time management skills

INTELLECTUAL DEMANDS:

Must understand vague and implicit instructions, and react favorably in all work situations
Must be approachable and responsive to a variety of people and issues
Must be adaptable and flexible in dealing with a variety of people
Must be able to resolve problems, handle conflict and make effective decisions under pressure
Must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

Compensation: $26.00 – $31.00 ++
