Position Summary

SUNY Geneseo is seeking an individual to serve as Director of Student Retention. A new position that will report to both the Provost and the Vice President for Student and Campus Life, the person in this position will assess, develop, and execute retention strategies to improve transition, the student educational experience, and persistence at SUNY Geneseo. The position requires excellent project management and problem-solving skills, along with the ability to research and analyze issues that impact student retention, completion, and time-to-degree.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in Education, Counseling, Higher Education Administration, or a related field commensurate with experience with retention related initiatives
Significant experience in student retention, advising, or other student supported services
Demonstrated success in developing and leading results-oriented programs and initiatives for student success and retention
Demonstrated experience with equity-minded approaches to student engagement, learning, and success, along with use of strategies and evaluated practices that focus on access and growth-mindset
Demonstrated leadership and collaboration skills in an institution of higher education
Demonstrated experience with data-informed assessment and decision-making
Knowledge of and experience with research and best practices in student success, retention, and persistence
Demonstrated commitment to promoting equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging
Ability to work with diverse campus departments and disciplines
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications

Doctorate in education, student development, counseling, or a related field
Experience with student information systems and early alert tools in higher education
License/Certification Other Skills Required Supervision Received

The Director of Student Retention reports to both the Provost and the Vice President for Student and Campus Life, with the Provost serving as the supervisor of record.
Supervision Exercised

This position does not supervise or otherwise have any regular responsibility for the work of others.
