Join us as DMU Supervisor, and you’ll be looking at a career-defining role based in Los Angeles (CA), US.

This is the full supervisory-level role in Equipment Maintenance that exercises independent judgement on diverse and specialized Equipment Maintenance functions and has significant accountability and ongoing independent decision-making responsibility associated with the work. You will supervise all Technicians as well as oversee all sub-contracting employees. This includes job instruction, training, evaluation, accident investigation and when necessary, discipline. Responsibilities include operational tests; Technician qualification or disqualification; conducts post-accident investigations; and ensure filling of work orders and materials required to repair and maintain diesel multiple units.

Your responsibilities will include:
Management reserves the rights to add, modify, change, or rescind the work assignments of different positions and to make reasonable accommodations so that qualified employees can perform the essential functions of the job.

Dedicate to continuously protecting employees from occupational illness and work-related accidents, and promoting their wellness.
Ensure compliance with the standards established by applicable laws, regulations and other requirements, and adopts the required standards, procedures, contingency measures and systems in order to ensure operations are managed safely.
Ensure compliance with CFR Part 219 Control of Alcohol and Drug Use by making reasonable suspicion determinations.
Support the department hiring manager, sourcing, screening, and selecting candidates to fill vacancies.
Make sure all Equipment Maintenance schedules and assignments are kept, all railroad property is kept in order, safe, and in operating condition; sits as judge in matters of rule breaking, accidents, or other circumstances deemed within jurisdiction by holding inquiries and hearings and determining proper disciplinary action.
Qualify (or disqualy) all those who work within Equipment Maintenance. Help administer the Company’s training program, certify and/or re-certify all Arrow Maintenance Technicians. Appropriately test and evaluate the knowledge and skills of Technicians.
Conduct incident investigations and random review of Technicians by direct observation.
Review, recommends and implements Equipment Maintenance processes that maximize efficiency.
Train and supervise Technicians by periodically observing them on their regularly scheduled assignments to determine employees’ compliance with rules and special instructions and to look for areas which may benefit from increased attention.
Coach, counsel and discipline employees in accordance with Company policies and procedures.
Manage timekeeping for assigned employee group to include reviewing time entry, ensuring missed lunches are paid, verifying overtime, and requesting special pay in accordance with policies.
Ensure all employee work hours are entered into RailDocs for regulatory compliance.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager of Equipment.

As our ideal candidate:
You are knowledgeable in Rail Equipment Systems and Sub-systems.
Mechanical and Electrical aptitudes
Principles and practices of employee supervision, including work planning, assignment, review and evaluation, and the training of staff in work procedures.
Basic principles and practices of conflict resolution, relationship building, negotiation and accountability.
Applicable Federal, State, and local laws, regulatory codes, ordinances, and procedures relevant to assigned area of responsibility.
Record keeping principles and procedures.
Modern office practices, methods, and computer equipment and applications related to the work.
English usage, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, and punctuation.
Techniques for providing a high level of customer service by effectively dealing with the public, vendors, contractors, and staff.

You are able to assist in developing and implementing goals, objectives, practices, policies, procedures, and work standards.
Supervise, select, train, motivate, and evaluate the work of staff.
Plan, organize, administer, coordinate, review, evaluate, and personally participate in operation functions.
Prepare and maintain clear and accurate records, reports, correspondence, policies, procedures, and other written materials.
Verify the accuracy of data and information.
Interpret, apply, explain, and ensure compliance with applicable Federal, State, and local policies, procedures, laws, and regulations.
Effectively conduct meetings and make presentations to various groups.
Present complex information orally and in writing in an easy-to-understand way for employees, community groups, and decision-makers.
Analyze situations and identify pertinent problems/issues; collect relevant information; evaluate realistic options; and recommend/implement appropriate course of action.
Establish and maintain a variety of filing, record-keeping, and tracking systems.
Organize and prioritize a variety of projects and multiple tasks in an effective and timely manner; organize own work, set priorities, and meet critical time deadlines.
Operate modern office equipment including computer equipment and specialized software applications programs.
Use English effectively to communicate in person, over the telephone, and in writing.
Use tact, initiative, prudence, and independent judgment within general policy, procedural, and legal guidelines.
Establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California Driver’s License by time of appointment.

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

5 years of experience within rail maintenance of equipment field
Familiar with Federal Regulations and its related material
Supervisor experience
HAZMAT training/certification
Manual and/or Schematic knowledge

Electrical schematic
Air schematic
Maintenance manuals
