What you’ll be doing

Hitachi Vantara is seeking a seasoned Filmmaker / DP with a passion for filmmaking, photography, design and technology to join the growing in-house video production team that includes editors and animators. This role reports to the Senior Producer.

The role calls for a mix of high-level creativity, boots-on-the-ground ingenuity, and the ability to find the core of any story you’re tasked to bring to life. You understand and respect the notion that filmmaking in any form is collaborative and you bring to the table a visual style that is authentic and cinematic.

Expertise in cinematography and video direction is a must. One week you may be shooting and editing, guerilla style, and the next week you might be running a full crew in another country. The ideal candidate possesses the right temperament to manage and adapt to fast change that is natural to our business and the passion to push our storytelling to new heights. We want to continue to evolve, and we want you to bring something special to the mix.

An excellent storytelling reel that shows your visual point of view is a must. You must be as comfortable and adept at directing documentary style films as you are traditional commercial ad spots.

Expert storyteller with a command of visual, communication, narrative, and motion design principles, including composition, framing, and timing.

You get your hands dirty with shot setups, lighting, and cinematography. You have a deep understanding of how to use motion graphics, animation, audio and 3D to best tell a story.

Expertise and hands-on experience with: RED cameras, RED RAW workflow, and ARRI cameras.

You possess excellent communication skills: Verbal, written, interpersonal, and inter-departmental (an absolute must).

You exhibit superb professionalism and project a calm, mature presence in all aspects of team and client relationship building.

You have an ability to contribute meaningfully to the strategic development of an assignment and promote conceptual thinking among the team.

Collaborate humbly and thrive on receiving and delivering thoughtful and direct feedback.

You are an expert at directing outside video production vendors.

You are proficient in various creative tools like Adobe CC.

Lead the development of creative concepts from script to screen. You love building treatments, storyboards, diagrams, developing cinema styles, working with on-camera talent, and diving deep into the guts of what makes a story tick.

Embrace the ambiguous moments that come with scaling an in-house team and implementing/evolving production processes.

Innovate on our existing workflows and come up with treatments that help create successful creative concepts at scale.

Work with copywriters, designers, editors, product managers, campaign and social managers to elevate the creative values and performance for our organic and paid media deliverables.

Conceptualize ways to optimize video content for marketing purposes. A keen ability to build work as well as package and present creative solutions in an inspiring manner.

What you bring to the team

Must have a reel that showcases direction and cinematography skill.

You have a minimum of 10 years experience in the creative industry and 5 years in B2B, either in-house or agency-side.

Flexibility to travel domestically and internationally as the need arises.

Bachelors degree, preferably in Advertising, Film or Television or equivalent experience.

Self-motivated, versatile and highly organized, with an acute attention to detail to deliver work at a consistently high standard.

A good eye for detail, with a focus on consistency and accuracy.

This role is designed for someone who has a passion for shaping the awareness, narrative and image of our evolving company. This person should have an analytical mind and creative spirit, attention to detail, the ability to tackle tasks big and small and keep calm under pressure, and dedication to driving demonstrable results. They also should possess intellectual curiosity and a strong interest in the technology industry. Also, this role requires:

A minimum of 10-15 years of senior communications experience

Familiarity working closely with the CEO and/or senior leaders of a large organization and with multiple cross-functional teams.

Demonstrated ability to create high-quality work, calmly and with good judgment in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

A university degree. Degrees in communications and journalism are preferred. Advanced degrees are a plus.

A strong leader with a can-do attitude and a sense of humor.
