Title: French Academic Director Audubon Charter School
Purpose of Position: To provide direct support to the teachers and teaching assistants in the French program. The Director will work with administration, teachers, parents and students to ensure academic and discipline standards are upheld. The Director will be responsible for all AEFE, CODOFIL, and LDOE World Language obligations.
Employment Status: Full-Time, Exempt
Reports to: Principal or Principal’s Designee
Supervises: Teachers, Teacher Assistant(s) and Volunteer(s)
Location: Lower School Campus
Essential Functions:
Demonstrate Knowledge of Content and Pedagogy

Assist teachers in creating lesson and unit plans that support instructional outcomes and reflect important concepts in the discipline
Assist teachers in creating lesson and unit plans that accommodate prerequisite relationships among concepts and skills
Work with colleagues to assure interdisciplinary connections are planned and practiced
Review all lesson and unit plans to ensure alignment our outcomes, activities and skills with all relevant curriculums and standards

Create an Environment of Respect and Rapport

Encourage and model respectful talk, active listening and turn taking
Acknowledge students’ and faculty’s backgrounds and lives outside of the classroom
Exhibit body language indicative of warmth and caring to all stakeholders
Encourage and model politeness and support for all community members
Encourage and model fairness in all interactions

Establish a Culture for Learning

Demonstrate a belief in the value of what is being learned and French instructional pedagogies
Encourage high expectations, supported through both verbal and nonverbal behaviors, for both learning and participation
Encourage and recognize effort and persistence on the parts of students
Create a culture that promotes high expectations for expression and work products
Establish smooth functioning schoolwide routines with little or no loss of instructional time
Create schoolwide routines where students play an important role in carrying out the routines

Display Professionalism and Commitment to the Audubon Community:

Reflect and refine leadership based on feedback from others and self-reflection
Create systems and routines that track student metrics to improve both academic and socio-emotional outcomes
Maintain accurate documentation of student progress
Frequently and in a way that is culturally appropriate, communicate with families regarding the program and student progress
Cultivate positive two-way communication between school and families
Create frequent opportunities for families to engage in the learning process
Regularly create frequent opportunities for colleagues to work collaboratively to share and plan for student success
Facilitate professional development opportunities that emphasize improving practice
Regularly initiate school activities which further the mission of the school
Regularly initiate activities which emphasize community service
Support students even in the face of difficult situations or conflicting policies
Fulfill organizational mandates regarding policies and procedures

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Provides direct support to teachers, teaching assistants, parents, and students relative to French instruction, education, professional development and discipline within the French program.
Conducts teacher/teaching assistant observations and makes recommendations for improved job performance.
Completes mid-year and end-of-year teacher evaluations; works with lead teachers to complete end-of-year teaching assistant evaluations.
Conducts teacher/parent conferences regarding student discipline and academic concerns within the French program.
Makes recommendations for professional development, teacher interventions, accommodations and modifications to improve student outcomes and teacher effectiveness.
Maintains all logs and documentation related to the French program.
Serves as a member of the Student Assistance Team; works closely with Special Education Chairperson, School Counselor, Student Services Coordinators, and all other Resource/Support Staff as needed.
Participates in on-going professional development and leadership training.
Participates as an active member of the Administrative and Leadership Teams.
Works with members of the Administrative Team to develop class rolls and teacher schedules.
Attends school-related activities: PTO Board Meetings, PTO General Meetings, FAME Board and Committee Meetings, Open House, Report Card Conferences, School Festivals, and other activities in which students and teachers participate.
Responds promptly to telephone and email inquiries from teachers, administrators and other stakeholders.
Performs other duties as required and determined by the Principal.

Education, Training and Experience:
Required

Excellent written and oral communication (both in French and English)
Bachelor’s degree required
Minimum 5 years of teaching experience at the levels served
French Teacher Certification
Certification or ability to gain certification as a Teacher Leader or School Administrator
Experience and knowledge of the French National Education Program
Experience in and/or understanding of the public school system including charter schools is desirable

Preferred

Master’s degree in Education
7+ years of classroom or instructional leadership experience at a French school at the levels served

EVALUATION: In accordance with Board policy and French Ministry Education.
Job Types: Full-time, Contract
Pay: $35,608.00 – $75,235.00 per year
