The California Environmental Justice Alliance (CEJA) is a statewide, community-led alliance that works to achieve environmental justice by advancing policy solutions. We unite the powerful local organizing of our members in the communities most impacted by environmental hazards – low-income communities and communities of color (immigrant communities) – to improve environmental health by creating comprehensive opportunities for change statewide. California Environmental Justice Alliance Action (CEJA Action) – CEJA’s sister 501(c)(4) organization – builds the political power of communities of color to advance environmentally and socially just policies in California by engaging voters in communities of color, organizing and training grassroots leaders to engage in civic and electoral politics, and advocacy to advance critical policies that will improve the health and quality of life in communities of color.

Under the supervision of the Development Director or Interim Co-Director, Development; the Grant Writer will support diverse aspects of CEJA’s development work and overall help raises CEJA’s annual budget. The Grant Writer will have responsibility for facilitating the production of, drafting, finalizing, and submitting grant proposals and reports and will play a key role in supporting CEJA’s overall grants management program. This is a part-time position of 20/week.

The fiscal sponsor for CEJA is the Environmental Health Coalition (EHC), a member of CEJA. This position will be an employee of EHC. The position may be housed in CEJA’s offices: Huntington Park, Sacramento, and Oakland.

Grants Management:
Support Development Director or Interim Co-Director, Development manages CEJA’s and CEJA Action’s grants calendar. Ensure compliance with deadlines and technical requirements.
Craft and generate CEJA’s and CEJA Action’s written reports, concept papers, letters of inquiry, and proposals. Use independent judgment and draw on expertise to develop an approach and strategy.
Work with the Development Director on the framing of proposals.
Identify and interview relevant staff to gather information on grant deliverables.
Work with the Financial & Administration Director to produce financial reports for grant reports and budgets for grant proposals with the support of the Development Director or Interim Co-Director, Development.
Identify and gather supplementary materials, such as media items and publications, for reports and proposals.
Finalize drafts of full report and proposal packages for final review, submit final reports and proposals to funders.
Research funders to identify alignment and processes for application.
Support Development Director or Interim Co-Director, Development as needed in CEJA’s efforts to secure sponsorships from funders for our annual Congreso and other fundraisers.
Support Development Director or Interim Co-Director, Development and CEJA’s member and partner organizations as needed for CEJA’s re-granting processes.
Work with Development and Financial staff to appropriately file and track grant agreements, grant checks, sponsorships, and ensure accuracy in monthly reports.
Input and manage data in Salesforce, including donor and funder contact information,

and information about grants to CEJA.
Review and analyze data in individual records to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Manage Salesforce task calendar.

General Development and Organizational Responsibilities:
Fulfill a range of administrative functions related to the digital tools used in CEJA’s and CEJA Action’s development work, including maintaining orderly files and updating grant data.
Actively participate in CEJA-wide events, such as the annual Congreso, regular team meetings and/or campaign/committee meetings.
Complete additional tasks as ag
reed upon with the Development Director or Interim Co-Director, Development.

Required Qualifications:
Commitment to environmental, social, and economic justice
High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and online systems like Google Docs and Box
Internet fluency; strong web research skills
Highly detail-oriented and accountable
Ability to work flexible hours to respond to position needs
Minimum of 2 years of experience in grant writing and/or content writing
Excellent writing skills – ability to respond to writing prompts and to adjust the approved language to fit funder priorities
Intermediate experience with database systems
Excellent, detail-oriented project management skills
Ability to work well both independently and with the team
Ability to multi-task and manage deadlines
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree+ in Policy, Environmental Science, or a related field.
Bilingual English Spanish
Intermediate experience with Salesforce
Familiarity with EJ funding landscape and foundations
Experience working with low-income communities and communities of color

Schedule : This is a regular part-time position with an anticipated schedule of 15-20 hours per week.

SALARY: $35-38 / hour – commensurate with experience
