Northern Virginia Mental Health Institute has an exciting new opportunity for two entry level Health Information Management Technician positions. Both positions are Day Shift. The unit based HIM Technicians provide health information management and administrative support to assigned clinical units. As unit based representatives of the Health Information Management Department, they strive to maintain the integrity and confidentiality of the medical record during the patient’s admission; while ensuring compliance with all regulatory guidelines and standards. The successful candidate will have strong organizational skills and be able to multiple task with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. They will possess the ability to follow established policies and procedures even during a high-stress, fast paced work day with many distractions. Applicants should possess strong interpersonal skills and the demonstrated ability to interact with unit and professional staff as well as patients and visitors. This position will utilize an Electronic Health Records System for managing medical records. Positions require incumbents to wear hospital scrubs at the incumbents expense.

Minimum Qualifications

Prior administrative or health information management experience in a medical setting required.

Requires working knowledge and understanding of HIPAA Privacy Rules and Regulations.

Demonstrated experience with filing systems.

Experience with Microsoft Office applications.

Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.

Excellent customer service skills.

Ability to multitask

Experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR).

High School Grad or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

Administrative experience in an inpatient MENTAL HEALTH medical facility

Experience with maintaining/auditing medical records.

Special Requirements

Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory fingerprint-based background check. Positions require incumbents wear hospital scrubs at the incumbents expense.
