National Claims Director
Store Support Center
We are searching for an experienced National Claims Director for our Store Support Center, located at 600 Citadel Drive, Commerce, CA 90040.
The National Claims Director’s primary function is to manage and support the company’s insurance claims management programs and processes, including management of the work of the company’s claims supervisors and oversight of third-party claims administrators and consultants.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned or required.
Responsible for oversight and management of all General Liability and Worker’s Compensation claims management processes – working with contracted third-party administrators, claims reporting, claims activity management, litigation management, claim investigation and resolution.

Structures, coaches and directs the internal risk management claims team to achieve the lowest cost resolution of claims.

Interfaces regularly with third party claims administrators and insurance carriers’ claim teams to ensure that the claims management processes operate efficiently and effectively. Works with the California State Department of Insurance to ensure that the Self-Insured Workers Compensation program maintains compliance with all required claims handling regulations and laws.

Provides relevant and regular internal and external reporting of claims data to operating, financial and executive management.

Supports internal budgeting and accounting processes related to claims to ensure that the company’s claims related expenses and balance sheet accruals are timely and accurate.

Provides support to the actuarial claims’ valuation process on an ad hoc basis to support explanations about changes in claims values.

Identifies internal opportunities for reductions in claims costs and collaboratively works with internal departments to create the changes needed to achieve the reduced costs.
Directly supervises non-exempt associates and third-party vendors that assist with claims handling. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies, procedures and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining associates; addressing complaints and resolving problems.


Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) from four-year college/university or equivalent combination of education and experience and minimum of ten years related experience and/or training.

Experience should include work in a high-volume claims environment and a detailed understanding of workers compensation and general liability claims handling processes. Demonstrated experience developing programs to reduce claims and claims costs. Knowledge and experience working with actuarial evaluations in a multi-unit retail environment.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
Ability to clearly write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Personal computer skills including the MS Office programs; Excel, Power Point and Word and the ability to apply these skills to essential duties and responsibilities are required.
Ability to work with third party web-based claims management systems to monitor claims, access claims data, and create reports.
