Department Information

Residential Programs and Services provides on-campus housing and dining for over 12,000 students. We strive to create life-changing experiences by building relationships, developing others, and creating a sense of belonging for our students, their families, and the IU community.

Job Summary

Provides administrative and other clerical support to the Interior Design Office of the Facilities Department; handles front desk duties; greets guests; answers inquiries by phone and in person or refers to appropriate office or individual; schedules and maintains meetings and vendor appointments.
Creates, develops and maintains a variety of files and reports and ensures completeness and accuracy; updates and purges as necessary.
Maintains swipe card access database for staff, vendors, and contractors; issues parking permits to vendors and contractors.
Responsible for planning and designing interiors for the residence halls. Develops and presents proposals, plans and specifications, including cost estimates and budget recommendations. Writes purchase requisitions designating vendors. Conceives, designs, prepares drawings and establishes specifications for FF&E (furniture, finishes, equipment), including specialties such as digital and manual signage, adhering to pertinent regulations and standard building codes. Engages in space planning as required. Reviews and monitors projects in progress to ensure budget control, timely completion, and the compliance of contractors with established standards.
Assists contractors and craftspeople in resolving problems during installation; and develops and proposes solutions and prepare revised design alterations of modifications as appropriate. Maintains contacts with vendors, manufacturing representative, contractors and craftsmen to evaluate projects and to ensure awareness of trends in the design field.
Maintains design library and resource files.

Qualifications

EDUCATION
Required

Bachelor’s degree in interior design, architecture, or a related field.

WORK EXPERIENCE
Required

1 year of experience in interior design, architecture, or a related field.

Combinations of related education and experience may be considered.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Preferred

NCIDQ National Council for Interior Design Qualification and LEED AP.

SKILLS
Required

Proficient communication skills.
Maintains a high degree of professionalism.
Demonstrated time management and priority setting skills.
Demonstrates a high commitment to quality.
Possesses flexibility to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment.
Seeks to acquire knowledge in area of specialty.
Demonstrated proficiency with CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software.

Working Conditions / Demands

This role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. This role frequently requires the ability to handle equipment. This role frequently requires the ability to remain stationary and ascend/descend ladders/stairs. This role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds. The role requires the ability to detect items in close proximity as well as far away; discern between colors; detect objects in peripheral space of self; discern items in detail; and to have good depth perception. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
