Resident DirectorVolunteers of America is looking for an experienced Resident Director to join our Assisted Living team. The role of the Resident Director is to ensure the well-being of the residents that reside within their home. By overseeing the facility, you will have the ability to build relationships and make a difference in the lives of others.
OBJECTIVE: The Residence Director is responsible for ensuring the general well-being of residents through the delivery of high quality care and services in a manner that is consistent with the philosophy of assisted living and that complies with state and local laws and regulations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Planning and Organization * Plan, develop, organize, implement, direct and evaluate the facility’s programs and services.
Prepare an annual operating budget and capital replacement plan for approval by the Senior Vice President of Operations.
Keep abreast of the economic conditions and makes adjustments as necessary to assure the continued ability to provide quality care and services.
Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of current trends and new developments in the Senior Housing/ Assisted Living/Home Care fields.
Monitor external and internal environment for development of new market segments.
Take initiative to actively plan, develop and implement expansion and/or innovation in program services.
Assist in preparing feasibility studies and business plans for new program development.
Administration * Assume the administrative authority, responsibility and accountability of directing the programs and activities of the facility.
Develop and maintain written policies and procedures that govern the operation of the facility.
Review the facility’s policies and procedures periodically, at least annually, and make changes as necessary to assure compliance with organizational standards and applicable regulations.
Interpret the facility’s policies and procedures to employees, residents, family members, visitors, regulatory agencies, etc., as necessary.
Assist department directors in the development and use of department policies and procedures.
Assure that the facility is in compliance with federal, state and local standards and regulations.
Develop and implement a plan of correction for deficiencies noted during survey inspections.
Investigate and report incidents of suspected resident neglect/abuse in accordance with established procedures.
Make written and oral reports/recommendations to the Senior Vice President of Operations concerning the operations of the facility.
Review and interpret monthly financial statements; prepares variance reports and plans for correction.
Negotiate contracts for community based funding programs, in consultation with the Financial Analyst.
Represent the facility in dealings with outside agencies.
Act as the facility’s spokesperson for media communication in consultation with the Communications Department at the organization’s national office.
Attend and participate in workshops and seminars to keep abreast of changes in the field of aging and housing with services and to maintain professional status.
Delegate a responsible staff member to act in your behalf during your absence from the facility.
Operations * Assure that the facility is maintained in a clean and safe manner for resident comfort and convenience by ensuring that necessary equipment and supplies are maintained to perform duties and services.
Make routine inspections of the facility to ensure that established policies and procedures are being implemented and followed and that the building and grounds are maintained in good repair.
Authorize the purchase of equipment and supplies in accordance with established purchasing policies and procedures.
Make or authorize any necessary facility-related expenditure consistent with established budgets.
Assure that adequate equipment and supplies are on hand to meet the day-to-day operational needs of the facility.
Establish and monitor a system of supply and equipment inventory and control.
Conduct an on-going evaluation of food service quality; monitor menus for quality and variety.
Serves as the Facility Compliance Officer, responsible for implementation of the corporate compliance program and all compliance procedures related to operations of the facility.
Establish and monitor, in coordination with environmental services, the implementation of a routine preventative maintenance and housekeeping program.
Conduct routine tests of the facility’s Emergency Plan.
Assure that all facility personnel, residents and visitors follow established safety regulations.
Review accident/incident reports and establishes an effective accident prevention program.
Holds active memberships in professional and community organizations and participates in continuing education activities.
Human Resources * Delegate administrative authority, responsibility and accountability to other qualified personnel as deemed necessary to perform their assigned duties.
Assure that an adequate number of appropriate trained personnel are on duty at all times to meet the needs of the residents.
Develop and maintain written job descriptions and work routines for each staff position.
Provide appropriate guidance, coaching, support and motivation for personnel reporting to this position. Administers Performance Appraisal in a timely manner, as described in Performance Review Guidelines.
Actively promote staff participation and involvement in the day-to-day operations and decision-making. Promote team building.
Regularly schedule and conduct departmental and all staff meetings.
Assist department directors in the planning, conducting and scheduling of in-service training classes, on-the-job training and orientation programs.
Meet with department directors on a regularly scheduled basis and conduct in-service classes and supervisory level training programs.
Counsel and discipline personnel as necessary.
Terminate employees when necessary; documenting and coordinating such actions with corporate Human Resources.
Handle employee grievances in accordance with the facility’s established grievance procedure.
Marketing * Develop, implement and evaluate a Facility Marketing Plan in accordance with the organization’s established format.
Attain and/or maintain the targeted occupancy level.
Provide tours and explanation of services to potential residents, families and referrals.
Ensure that public information describing the services provided in the facility is accurate and fully descriptive.
Develop and maintains a mailing list for facility.
Represent the facility at community events to maintain the visibility of the facility within the local community.
Supports and promotes the Volunteers of America branding campaign and fundraising efforts.
Resident Services * In consultation with the Director of Health Services, conduct initial assessment of residents to assure their needs can be met.
Coordinate details related to move-ins and move-outs.
Assure that residents maintain admission criteria; re-assesses and recommends alternative placement as necessary.
Make final determination on eligibility for continued residency.
Document and file information pertaining to residents’ problems/progress.
Implement approaches and services to maintain or enhance resident independence.
Refer residents to community-based services as necessary.
Maintain confidentiality of all resident information.
Follow all federal, state and local mandated regulations.
Quality Assurance and Customer Service * Assure the provision of high quality services needed and/or desired by the residents; meets at least monthly with residents to monitor levels of satisfaction.
Strive to attain excellence in customer satisfaction through on-going solicitation and measurement of customer feedback, implementation of recommendations, interactive problem solving with residents and an annual program evaluation.
Monitor, on a routine on-going basis, key measurable indicators of the daily operations.
Apply continuous quality improvement principles to financial and operating systems through education of department managers on budgetary issues and departmental performance to budget.
Make measurable improvements in the overall coordination of all aspects of the facility’s services.
Bachelor’s degree in a Healthcare Administration or related field or combination of equivalent education and experience.
Must hold a current LALD license in good standing with the State of MN
Minimum of two (2) years experience in a healthcare environment, at least one of which should include experience in memory care.
Minimum of 1 year supervisory experience.
Proficiency in computer programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, e-mail and Internet.
Possess well-developed interpersonal skills. Good communicator.
Organized and attentive to detail.
Team oriented and has ability to work effectively with internal and external customers.
Possess good customer service and conflict resolution skills.
Numerical ability necessary to make various computations in planning departmental objectives, keeping work records and schedules, preparing budgets, requisitioning supplies and monitoring inventory control.
Ability to work with residents of varying levels of responsiveness.
Able and willing to work flexible hours, such as during evenings, weekends and holidays as needed.
Able to make a decision in an emergency situation.
Ability to utilize computers and other electronic devices for tasks such as timekeeping, in-servicing and documentation
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $68,000.00 – $85,000.00 per year
