A counselor and SEL Instructor at iTeach Schools wears multiple hats to ensure an excellent education for their students. The three different parts of the role are:
A – Personal Counselling of students (approximately 50% time)
Work with teachers to identify behavioral, social, emotional gaps / challenges students are facing and implementing standardized referral systems for student selection
Examine and identify academic and other gaps
With inputs from teachers and assessments, identify students with LDs and large learning gaps
Work with the School Social Worker and parents to get students appropriate external testing for LDs
For students with LDs, ensure the LD certification gets them the best-fit concessions for examinations
Setting individual goals (qualitative / quantitative) and creating relevant IEPs for selected students.
Document cases thoroughly to establish a qualitative and quantitative and effective monitoring & evaluation of progress to goals.
B – Social Emotional Learning (approximately 40% time)
Consult with other Network SEL Specialists and school-based Leadership Teams to identify priorities, develop action plans, and monitor progress at 1-2 prioritized schools
Provide individualized, classroom-based coaching to support teachers in implementing best practices to promote SEL, establishing supportive learning environments, and developing supportive classroom management practices.
Manage communication and correspondence with school staff, students and families; monitoring project activities, proposal development and reporting.
C – Coach school team and parents on handling students with special needs (approximately 10% time)
Work with the School Principal and Vice-Principal to coach teachers and school staff on how best to include, and ensure learning for students with learning difficulties
Coach parents on how best to support students with learning difficulties
Support school in developing community partnerships and linkages for social services and behavioral health supports for high risk students
Education & Experience:
Master’s Degree with a specialization in psychology and/or counseling
2 – 3 years of work experience in personal counseling
Preferred: Work experience in remedial teaching and experience with adolescent students
