SUMMARY
Responsible for the execution of HKS’s Mission, goals and objectives through the execution of the job duties of a Lead Special Education Teacher in our Center-based Special Education Preschool focusing on children on the Autistic Spectrum. This involves working with an interdisciplinary team helping other teachers implement behavior plans. Exceptional interpersonal, problem solving, communication skills, along with the ability to take initiative. Must have the ability to process data collection, provide a functional behavior assessment produce a behavior intervention program. In addition, needs to have the skill set to train and assess other teachers in behavior management. ABA experience preferred
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for the development and execution of function/program within his/her span of control in accordance with HKS’ Mission and Strategic Objectives. Specifically, responsible for the successful running a Special Education Preschool classroom with all its specifics such as the following:
Plan and Conduct Children’s Learning Center IEP Assessments

Understand and execute a formal case review of the student’s history including educational, rehabilitation and medical information that is available.
Gain an understanding before formal in-person assessment through dialogue with the student’s parents and the Early Intervention Program as to the child’s present functioning level.
Assess the student’s present level of functioning in each of the following areas related to their education:
Fine Motor
Gross Motor
Speech and Language
Cognitive
Social / Emotional
Based on the student’s IEP evaluations and accompanying medical assessments and the student’s parent’s input, determine appropriate short term instructional objectives and annual goals.
Perform the essential teaching responsibilities at HKSB and remain current with pedagogical research, teaching methods and new aids/devices via continuing education opportunities.
Keep notes of every student for assessment and instruction detailing the objective, details of class, and next steps to achieve. These will be used to complete session notes.
Participate and contribute in monthly teach meetings and all full staff meetings.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Master’s Degree in Special Education and 2 years’ experience working with children on the autistic spectrum. ABA experience preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
New York State Education Department / Students with Disabilities (Birth-Grade 2) Initial or Professional Certificate.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $80,000.00 – $90,000.00 per year
