Job Description
Global architecture and interior design and build firm is seeking a Business Unit Leader with 12+ years of experience to join their growing San Francisco team. As a Business Unit Leader, it is your job to lead a BU of 8-15 professionals of various backgrounds. You will foster an environment that allows members to thrive through synergy and collaboration to realize successful outcomes across Professional Excellence, Profitability, Happy Clients, and Fulfillment of BU Members. It is your job to look broadly at the BU’s pipeline, strategize how to win and allocate necessary resources inside and outside the team accordingly. You will proactively work on growing the BU and their business, thinking creatively about how to make wins for employees, for clients, for partners and for the company. You lead by example and demonstrate entrepreneurship to overcome challenges. An important part of your role is to engage regularly with office and global leadership as well as actively engage your network in the market.

Primary Responsibilities

Active in business development, cultivating leads, proposal development and leading client interviews to win new work.
Create the team conditions to allow all the players to play their part to the fullest
Working as a Project Director (on average scale projects) to oversee the work of the project leaders who are taking care of the day-to-day on projects
Regular engagement with clients to keep tabs on what is going on (the key is not abdicate responsibilities nor overly micro-manage, something in the middle)
Promote training of team members and see through their execution to upskill team members
Deep engagement with office and global leadership with a sincere desire to make things better in our office and lead by example.
Maintain an active presence in the market to advance and communicate the firm’s brand
Bring together our project team members to consider new solutions that address cultural opportunities in each project and redefine our understanding of everyday paradigms.
Take responsibility over the team’s financial targets and look to generate the business volume and operational efficiency to meet those targets.
Interface consistently and proactively with clients to ensure a smooth project delivery from inception to closure.
Establish and maintain a high level of trust between the project team, client and other project stakeholders.
Mentor and coach Project Leaders to work better with and mentor junior designers to enhance skills-building and teamwork.
Be proactive in uncovering and enforcing ways to enhance office culture and facilitate a creative and collaborative working environment.
Engage in talent recruitment by participating in select hires (or participate in the selection, interviewing and hiring of new talent).
Collaborate with contractors and subcontractors to share design and construction expertise in order to create inventive, well-crafted environments.
