POSITION PURPOSE

Working under limited supervision, the Technical Content Specialist is responsible for the creation of technical documents such as SOPs, job aids, and newsletters for Retail Operations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

Writes and edits technical documents including SOPs and job aids.
Writes and edits procedural documentation such as user guides and manuals.
Reviews, revises, and/or edits materials written by others and ensures Department document/brand uniformity and consistency in line with the Organization’s overall Brand DNA.
Determines the type of publication that will best serve the project requirements.
Meets with frontline team members, subject matter experts, and project managers to learn about specific products or processes.
Researches product samples to fully understand product.
Assesses the needs of the intended audience for each technical/procedural document; adjusts tone and technical terms used to meet those needs and to ensure readability, clarity, and understanding.
Plans writing processes and sets timelines and deadlines based on Department/Organization needs.
Creates charts and other visual aids to assist readers in understanding a product or process.
Gathers feedback from members, team members, and vendors to improve technical documents.
Ensures technical documents are updated, streamlines, maintained, and archived appropriately.
As needed, assist Retail Operations Department with ad hoc projects and duties.
Participates in community and civic events to promote awareness of the Credit Union the community.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Ensures work area and assigned equipment are clean, secure and well maintained.
Attends and participates in all required trainings, meetings and committees.
Satisfactorily completes all required compliance training and complies with all regulations which apply within the scope of the position to include OFAC, Bank Secrecy Act/Anti-Money Laundering, and USA Patriot Act.

PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS

Good working relationships and coordination exist with all credit union personnel. Retail Operations Department is effectively supported, and Management is appropriately informed of area activities. Assistance is provided as needed.
Communication is effective, especially concerning company matters. Chooses appropriate method of communicating information through technical documents, job aids, reports, and other assigned writing/editing projects. Written documents and oral communications support effective and efficient operation, support Fortera Core Values, and reflect the company’s professional image.
Uses time and resources well. Demonstrates innovation, adaptability, and creativity in all aspects of the position.
Required reports and records are accurate, complete, and timely.

MENTAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved instructions and to deal with problems involving a few variables.

Mathematics Ability:

Ability to perform basic math skills, use decimals to compute ratios and percents, and to draw and interpret graphs.

Language Ability:

Ability to read a variety of books, magazines, instruction manuals, atlases, and encyclopedias. Ability to prepare memos, reports, and essays using proper punctuation, spelling, and grammar. Ability to communicate distinctly with appropriate pauses and emphasis, correct pronunciation (or sign equivalent), and variation in word order using present, perfect, and future tenses.

Required Experience
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

Bachelor’s degree in English, Technical Writing, or related field required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:

Knowledge of modern training techniques and tools in technical subjects.
Symitar system experience preferred.
Financial institution experience and knowledge of regulatory compliance preferred.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Minimum two years of experience designing and writing technical content.
