St. Stephen’s and St. Agnes School (SSSAS) of Alexandria, VA is looking to hire a full-time Upper School Director of Academic Support who wants to make a real difference in the lives of students. The Upper School Director of Academic Support will articulate and execute a vision for supporting student learning, teacher professional development, and parent programming in the Upper School with particular attention to neurodiverse learners, learning design, and intervention strategies for success. The Upper School Director of Academic Support will be charged with reviewing the Upper School’s current model of academic support to identify and implement systems, processes, and programmatic shifts that will provide for a more effective model of student support, better communication amongst stakeholders, and increased student success. The ideal candidate will have a wealth of experience in upper school environments. The ideal candidate will also possess a growth mindset, flexibility, creative problem-solving skills, and a sense of humor.
All members of the faculty instill our school’s mission by helping their students to become responsible, honest, compassionate, and respectful citizens. The successful candidate will be required to exercise professional judgment and responsibility in keeping with the expectations of the School’s faculty.
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
Master’s degree in special education or related field
Experience as a learning specialist
Experience in an Upper School setting
Strong organizational skills and an understanding of system design and development
Expertise and understanding of neurodiversity and learning differences including attention deficit, memory, language, social skill, executive function, and giftedness
Experience implementing data systems, leading data discussions, and using data to inform instruction
Demonstrated leadership experience
Extensive experience at the Upper School level
Experience interpreting and implementing recommendations from formal psycho-educational reports
Experience working with and providing appropriate instructional support for students with learning differences
Strong communication (oral and written) skills
Ability to manage time and effectively meet deadlines
Ability to develop positive and collaborative relationships with students, parents, and colleagues
Strong references who confirm the applicant’s ability and expertise
