Visiting Marketing Writer
Office for University Relations
University of Illinois System-Urbana
The System Office seeks a Visiting Marketing Writer to be responsible for creatively telling the story of the University of Illinois System through online, print, and social media messages. This position will work closely with other communications professionals to ensure consistency in messaging. They will create content that motivates, inspires, educates, and informs target audiences across a wide variety of platforms. The Visiting Marketing Writer will create compelling content for the system website, publications, massmail communications, email campaigns, advertising campaigns, and other communications. They will work with the marketing director, graphic designers, and others on implementing effective marketing strategies. They are also responsible for web content management, and shared responsibility for social media content development and channel management.

Duties:
Additional responsibilities include:
Writing
Research and draft marketing copy, advertisements, emails, and presentations consistent with system branding and messaging and in collaboration with other System Offices and, as necessary, university offices.
Working with the marketing team, develop and implement a proactive marketing communications strategy, including print, digital, and social media, as well as other formats.
Conduct research, interview, and write and edit copy for website, articles, blogs, videos, social media, publications, promotional materials, advertising campaigns, videos, blogs, and presentations.
Work closely with leaders, executives, and content experts as part of the research process.
Work closely with others for seamless management of content creation and distribution through system social media platforms and websites.
Post routine news releases and mine stories for inclusion in multiple blogs and social media posts.
Maintain writing style guide for system offices, working within the branding guidelines.
Work closely with institutional data experts on the system’s data pages and provide narrative context and storytelling that complement the system’s data points of pride.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or related field.
Minimum of four years of professional experience writing in a marketing, public relations, or similar environment.

Preferred:
Experience writing in a higher education environment.
Demonstrated expertise in writing in a marketing or marketing communications role or setting
Demonstrated expertise in web and social media content development and implementation.
Work effectively under tight deadline pressures and be able to respond quickly in the case of fast-breaking developments.
Strong writing and speaking skills.
Ability to work collaboratively and effectively in a team-based, dynamic environment that involves diverse group of developers, journalists, designers, and videographers.
Ability to be self-motivated, work independently, exercise good judgement, and prioritize tasks.
Proficiency with Microsoft Word and current social media platforms.
Professionalism and ability to interact with senior administrative and academic officials.
Oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills and organizational abilities.
Must exercise excellent judgment and discretion, especially in the handling of confidential and/or sensitive issues and information.
