About Us

Albany State University is a fully accredited senior unit of the University System of Georgia. Our West Campus is located at 2400 Gillionville Road, Albany, GA 31707. Our East Campus is located at 504 College Drive, Albany, GA 31705. The Human Resources office for both campuses is located on the West Campus in Building K, Suite 111.

Job Summary

The Librarian understands and is able to perform all job duties related to Circulation and Access Services, including but not limited to; charging, discharging, and renewing library materials, receiving and processing reserves and system-level hold requests; routing inter-handling the book-drops and usage statistics.


Use of the Alma automated systems for support of Circulation .
Assist library patrons with online public access computer instruction, hardware and software system issues.
Collects and analyzes usage data to assist in the selection process, annual reports and monthly reports.
Promotes public awareness and use of electronic resources .
Assists patrons with general reference inquires, Chat and Ask-A-Librarian and information literacy services.
Proficient in GIL Express, Document Delivery Systems and the Online Public Access Catalog.
Must complete assessments for the Circulation Department.
Makes presentations to student, faculty, and community groups explaining library programs and services; answer reference questions, conduct required research on difficult and complex questions.
Develops and implements goals related to the University’s Strategic Plan, the Academic Affairs goals and library goals that are measurable and specific.
Must participate in the nights, weekend opening rotation schedule as needed • Performs other duties as required

Required Qualifications

High School Diploma
Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively with others is required
Proficient in the use of ALMA Integrated Library System and Technology.
Experience in Library Circulation and Interlibrary Loan activities.
Evening and weekend duties are required.

Preferred Qualifications

Some Vocational or Technical Training with some library experience or a combination of training and experience in an academic or public library is preferred. Experience in an academic or research setting with supervisory responsibilities is desired. Knowledge of library technology and automated systems is preferred.

Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook Express, Excel, Power Point, Publisher and Access.
In-depth experience in circulation, reference, and special collection practices.
Demonstrate experience managing and supervising staff.
Trouble-shooting ability and problem-solving skills.
Experience in searching electronic databases.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Strong technology skills including experience creating web pages.
Advanced computer skills.
Proactive interaction between faculty and students
